چکیده

We study the dimuon yield from open charm decays in the intermediate mass region(IMR) in heavy-ion collisions at the CERN-SPS energy. We find that final state rescatterings which broaden the mT spectrum of charmed mesons can enrich the part of the phase space covered by the NA50 experiment, thus leading to an apparent enhancement of IMR dileptons within the acceptance of the experiment. Such an enhancement increases with the dimuon invariant mass and the single muon energy cut-off. Dileptons are important signals in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. Depending on their invariant masses they can probe the collision processes at different stages. Low invariantmass dileptons are predominantly produced at the late stage of the collisions. So they provide information about the medium modification of hadron properties such as mass and spectral functions [1,2]. A large enhancement of low invariant-mass dileptons has indeed been

Hadronic Scatterings of Charm Mesons and Enhancement of Intermediate Mass Dileptons

Heavy quark production in hadronic reactions is reasonably well described by perturbative QCD. However, in heavy ion collisions, final-state interactions may affect the spectra of produced heavy mesons. At the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), a dense partonic system, often called the quark gluon plasma (QGP), is expected to be formed at the early stage. Since the QGP may induce a strong ...

Hadronic Scattering of Charm Mesons

The scattering cross sections of charm mesons with hadrons such as pion, rho meson and nucleon are studied in an effective Lagrangian. In heavy ion collisions, rescattering of produced charm mesons by hadrons affects both their transverse mass spectra and the invariant mass spectrum of dileptons resulting from their decays. These effects are estimated for heavy ion collisions at SPS energies an...

Intermediate-mass Dileptons at the Cern-sps and Rhic

The significance of thermal dilepton radiation at intermediate invariant masses (1 GeV < M < 3 GeV) in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions is investigated. At CERN-SpS energies, a consistent explanation of the excess observed by NA50 can be given. At RHIC energies the thermal signal is dominated by early emission indicative for QGP formation. Chemical under-saturation effects and the competi...

Effect of qq̄ Initial - state Interaction on Dilepton Emission Rate from Quark - Gluon Plasma

We calculate the dilepton production rate from a thermalized quark-gluon plasma in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC energies. Higher-order QCD corrections are included by using an analytical correction factor K(i), which takes into account the qq̄ initial-state interactions. We show that the analytic correction factor gives very good agreement with experimental Drell-Yan data and leads to large enha...

Dileptons from correlated D- and D-meson decays in the invariant mass range of the QGP thermal radiation using the UrQMD hybrid model

Relativistic heavy-ion collisions produce a hot and dense thermalized medium, that is expected to emit thermal radiation in form of dileptons. These dileptons are not affected by the strong force and are therefore a clean probe for the possible creation of a Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP). However, electroweak decays of open-charm mesons are expected to induce a substantial background in the invarian...
